Data, digital & design.

Human-AI co-creation: evaluating the impact of large-scale text-to-image generative models on the creative process
Large-scale Text-to-image Generative Models (LTGMs) are a cutting-edge class of Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms specifically designed to generate images from natural language descriptions (prompts). These models have demonstrated impressive capabilities in creating high-quality images from a wide range of inputs, making them powerful tools for non-technical users to tap into their creativity. The field is advancing rapidly and we are witnessing the emergence of an increasing number of tools, such as DALL-E, MidJourney and StableDiffusion, that are leveraging LTGMs to support creative work across various domains. However, there is a lack of research on how the interaction with these tools might affect the usersâ creativity and their ability to control the generated outputs. In this paper, we investigate how the interaction with LTGMs-based tools might impact creativity by analyzing the feedback provided by groups of design students developing an architectural project with the help of LTGMs tools

We report a case of advanced colon cancer of a patient that underwent right hemicolectomy in association with pancreaticoduodenectomy. The 5-year followâup showed that the patient remained free of disease. Despite the high morbidity rate, multi-visceral resection associated with adjuvant chemotherapy seems to provide an increase in survival or even long-term cure
Soil management, in terms of tillage and cropping systems, strongly influences the biological properties of soil involved in the suppression of plant diseases. Fungistasis mediated by soil microbiota is an important component of disease-suppressive soils. We evaluated the influence of different management systems on fungistasis against Fusarium graminearum, the relationship of fungistasis to the bacterial profile of the soil, and the possible mechanisms involved in this process. Samples were taken from a long-term experiment set up in a Paleudult soil under conventional tillage or no-tillage management and three cropping systems: black oat (Avena strigose L.) + vetch (Vicia sativa L.)/maize (Zea mays L.) + cowpea (Vigna sinensis L.), black oat/maize, and vetch/maize. Soil fungistasis was evaluated in terms of reduction of radial growth of F. graminearum, and bacterial diversity was assessed using ribosomal intergenic spacer analysis (RISA). A total of 120 bacterial isolates were obtained and evaluated for antibiosis, and production of volatile compounds and siderophores. No-tillage soil samples showed the highest level of F. graminearum fungistasis by sharply reducing the development of this pathogen. Of the cropping systems tested, the vetch + black oat/maize + cowpea system showed the highest fungistasis and the oat/maize system showed the lowest. The management system also affected the genetic profile of the bacteria isolated, with the systems from fungistatic soils showing greater similarity. Although there was no clear relationship between soil management and the characteristics of the bacterial isolates, we may conclude that antibiosis and the production of siderophores were the main mechanisms accounting for fungistasis.O manejo, em termos de preparo e sistemas de culturas, exerce forte influĂȘncia sobre as propriedades do solo; e essas, por sua vez, condicionam o seu potencial supressivo a doenças de plantas.
Phosphorus fractions in apple orchards in southern Brazil
Phosphorus (P) applications at dosages higher than the necessary may cause P buildup in the soil labile fractions and, consequently, pollution of water sources. This study aimed to assess accumulation of P fractions as well as the parameters of adsorption isotherms in soil profiles having a history of application of phosphate fertilizers and cultivated with apple trees. Soil samples were collected from an area with no history of cultivation and 2 apple orchards cultivated for 8 (P8) and 18 (P18) years, in the city of Urubici, Santa Catarina, southern Brazil. Soil samples were air dried, sieved in a 2-mm mesh, and subjected to chemical analyses (P adsorption) besides P chemical fractionation. Applications of phosphate fertilizers to the orchards, particularly P18, increased the inorganic and organic concentrations of P in all fractions. The distribution of P in organic and inorganic forms in the planted soils was similar to the distribution observed for the native vegetation soil. The highest inorganic labile P fraction, the lowest maximum P adsorption capacity, and the highest equilibrium concentration values at P18 are indicators of a higher environmental pollution risk of the orchards soils compared to the native soil
Association analysis in over 329,000 individuals identifies 116 independent variants influencing neuroticism
Neuroticism is a relatively stable personality trait characterized by negative emotionality (for example, worry and guilt)1; heritability estimated from twin studies ranges from 30 to 50%2, and SNP-based heritability ranges from 6 to 15%3,4,5,6. Increased neuroticism is associated with poorer mental and physical health7,8, translating to high economic burden9. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of neuroticism have identified up to 11 associated genetic loci3,4. Here we report 116 significant independent loci from a GWAS of neuroticism in 329,821 UK Biobank participants; 15 of these loci replicated at Pâ<â0.00045 in an unrelated cohort (Nâ=â122,867). Genetic signals were enriched in neuronal genesis and differentiation pathways, and substantial genetic correlations were found between neuroticism and depressive symptoms (rgâ=â0.82, standard error (s.e.)â=â0.03), major depressive disorder (MDD; rgâ=â0.69, s.e.â=â0.07) and subjective well-being (rgâ=ââ0.68, s.e.â=â0.03) alongside other mental health traits. These discoveries significantly advance understanding of neuroticism and its association with MDD
